Prof. (Dr.) Diptendra K. Sarkar is an internationally acclaimed surgical oncologist and breast surgeon with a distinguished academic and clinical career. A triple gold medalist in MBBS, DNB, and FRCS, he is recognized globally for his contributions to breast cancer surgery, surgical oncology, and medical education. Currently serving as Visiting Hauck Professor at Mayo Clinic, USA, he also plays a key role as International Tutor of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He has been a pioneer in surgical oncology and breast surgery in India. He founded the nation’s first dedicated Breast Service at IPGMER & SSKM Hospitals, Kolkata, which continues to be internationally recognized for its clinical excellence and research.
His academic journey is decorated with multiple gold medals: University Topper in MBBS, DNB (Surgery) Gold Medalist, and the rare distinction of being the world topper in FRCS, earning the GB Ong Gold Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons. He also holds the Fellowship of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers (FFSTEd), recognizing his dedication to surgical education worldwide.
